After a soft launch a week ago to help us secure some feedback, we launched fully today with a press conference at The Novotel in Al Barsha, Dubai.

During the event our senior management talked though the finer points of the service, and we were able to give a live demonstration; attendees downloaded the app using a test account while one of our cars drove around Dubai. It’s quite something to see the kilometers counting down on an app as a car you can’t see drives along a road you don’t know the name of.

We’re very excited to be finally going to market with this service. It’s been a long 18 months, but, we needed to get it right and 18 months was the time it took. We passionately believe that a customer taking a vehicle on long term lease but driving short distances is going to benefit.

How?

The current lease model is a flat fee and a distance allocation. Let’s say for example a car costs AED1000 a month to lease and the company allocates 1000km to the customer. Well, someone driving long distances is going to generate more wear on the car than someone driving short distances. A car traveling 10,000km a year requires one service, a car traveling 40,000km a year requires four services. Why should the customer whose car requires just one service subsidise the services of the long distance customer?

Shouldn’t the person driving 500km be charged less than the person driving 1000km?….we think so too.
