The UAE is not blessed with beauty. It is for the most part, flat, hot, and sandy. For the most part. There are a few places however that really make you say wow. The drive to Dibba is one of those wow experiences. Let me talk you through it.

First, you book your hotel. There are a few there. Then, you start driving. No matter which Emirate you’re leaving from you don’t want to take the new Dubai – Fujairah road. That’s a great road, VERY convenient. But you’re not doing this for convenience. You’re doing it for the drive. You need to take the Sharjah – Al Dhaid road and then the E88. When you hit Masafi (yes, the water mountains) you turn left.

You’re going to experience steep ups and steep downs. You’ll pass through the Friday market that appears to be open all the time, and you’ll be dodging goats. The drive through the mountains is amazing. I know that’s a superlative and as a writer I should think of something descriptive, but amazing is an apt word to use. Take a camera, pack your smile, and drive an amazing drive.

When you reach Dibba you have the mountains behind you (literally) and the Indian Ocean in front. It might just be paradise.
